Houston Dash make trades with players from the Dispersal Draft
With just four days left from the start of the 2018 NWSL season, the Orlando Pride obtain the player rights to defender Lotta Ökvist as the Houston Dash traded her in exchange for Orlando’s third-round pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft.
“We’re very happy to bring another young, left-footed and versatile player to the Pride,” Head Coach Tom Sermanni said. “Lotta’s style of play fits in with the way we compete on the field. We’re excited to welcome her to Orlando.”
Ökvist was previously a member with the Boston Breakers last season, but during the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft, the Dash selected her for the 13th pick of the draft after the Breakers ended their time with the NWSL in January.
The Swedish defender has made 25 appearances for Pitea IF during the 2016-2017 Damallsvenskn season. Ökvist also led Sweden to the 2015-2016 UEFA U-19 Women’s Championship.
The Washington Spirit announced their claim today with forward Tiffany Weimer from waivers. Weimer had previously played with the Spirit in 2014. Last year, Weimer had 17 caps with the Breakers and had one assist on goal.
The Spirit gained Weimer in the Dispersal Draft as well and was the 20th overall pick. She was then traded to the Houston Dash in exchange for the Dash’s fourth round pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft.
The Dash then put Weimer on the waiver list and she was open to any NWSL team that chose her. Washington picked her up from waivers and she will miss the first season game as she will be joining the team next week.
