USWNT take home second trophy of 2018 as Tournament of Nations Champions
For the final match of the 2018 Tournament of Nations, the USWNT took home their second trophy of 2018. Last night, the U.S. faced Brazil and came back from scoring on themselves in the 16th minute, and finished with a 4-1 victory.
To earn their first Tournament of Nations title, the U.S. had to win by two goals to top Australia, who were tied with the U.S. with seven points.
The NWSL was on a break due to the national team players who were called up for this tournament that consisted of six matches involving Japan, Australia, Brazil, and the U.S. Numerous players from the league were called up and even competed against fellow teammates from the NWSL as they represented their country on the pitch for the tournament.
Rose Lavelle scored in the 33rd minute and 20 minutes later defender Julie Ertz came through the middle to advance their lead 2-1. Alex Morgan assisted Tobin Heath’s goal in the 61st minute and forward Megan Rapinoe solidified the win in the 77th with the fourth goal.
This year, the U.S. record is currently 9-0-2 with victories against Denmark, Germany, England, Mexico (twice), China PR (twice), Japan, Brazil and ties with Australia and France.

Before competing for the World Cup qualifying in October, the USWNT will be in California on August 31st as they face Chile and their second friendly match will be on September 4th. The U.S. will enter the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship on Oct. 4 in Cary, N.C.
